Uzbekistan will be among the developers of standards of the International Electrotechnical Commission

From January 1, 2027, Uzbekistan will become a full member of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and will be able to participate in the development and improvement of international standards. The country will become the only full member of the IEC in Central Asia.

About thisit was saidat a meeting between the Minister of Digital Technologies Sherzod Shermatov and the IEC Secretary General Philip Metzger. One of the main topics of the negotiations was the expansion of cooperation in the field of international standardization. The parties discussed the training of national specialists, the participation of Uzbek experts in IEC technical committees and the implementation of international standards in the country.

Full membership will allow Uzbekistan not only to apply ready-made standards, but also to participate in their creation. At the same time, the country will become the only Central Asian state with such status.

Cooperation between Uzbekistan and the IEC began in 2015, when the republic joined the Partnership Program. In 2023, Uzbekistan became an associated member of the organization - in less than 12 years, the country has gone from an affiliate program to full membership.

Today, the IEC has developed more than 11 thousand international standards, about 2 thousand of them have already been adopted in Uzbekistan. Prospects for cooperation are related to IT, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, electrical engineering, energy efficiency and renewable energy.

The parties agreed to strengthen the training of national experts and expand their participation in international technical committees. The introduction of standards, as the meeting participants emphasized, will increase the competitiveness of Uzbek products and open access to world markets.

Let us remind you, the Uzbek Standards Institute has been accepted as a member of the International Electrotechnical Commission assessment scheme, which ensures recognition of certificates of Uzbek manufacturers in 53 countries around the world.
