Uzbekistan, Tashkent – Podrobno.uz News Agency. President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has signed a law ratifying the agreement with Uzbekistan on the joint management and rational use of transboundary water bodies.

The document provides for the coordinated use of shared water resources and the safe operation of water management facilities of interstate importance. To implement the agreements, the parties will establish a joint intergovernmental commission responsible for issues related to the management of water bodies.

The agreement was signed on 15 November 2025 in Tashkent during the second meeting of the Supreme Interstate Council of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. The ratification of the document is expected to strengthen coordination between the two countries in water allocation, reduce the risk of disputes, and improve the sustainability of water supply in regions dependent on the Syr Darya River and related water management facilities.

As previously reported, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan agreed to install ten automated hydrological monitoring stations to measure water flows along the transboundary sections of the Syr Darya River. Five such stations will be installed in each country.
